Labiaplasty in Oklahoma City, OK

Bajaj Plastic Surgery

Insecurities are never easy to discuss or address, especially when they involve one of your most intimate areas. While not always openly talked about, more women struggle with the appearance of their vulvo-vaginal area than you might think. These insecurities can be purely cosmetic, arising from uncertainty about whether the appearance of the vulva is “normal,” or they can stem from discomfort during everyday activities.

At Bajaj Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma City, we offer labiaplasty options with your comfort and well-being in mind. Dr. Anureet Bajaj will discuss your goals and concerns to ensure the procedure aligns with your expectations.

What Is Labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the labia minora, although other parts of the vulva may also be addressed. The labia majora is the outer layer, which appears like skin and is the hair-bearing part of the vulva. The labia minora is the inner layer that surrounds the vaginal opening and the urethra. The primary goal of labiaplasty is to change the size or shape of the labia minora.

Occasionally, some women may also choose to have a clitoral hood reduction, a labia majora reduction, or other procedures such as fat grafting to the labia majora in addition to labiaplasty of the labia minora.

What Are the Benefits of a Labiaplasty?

There are several functional benefits to a labiaplasty. While the procedure helps to improve the appearance of the labia, it can also improve comfort, hygiene, and confidence while performing everyday activities.

Some reasons that women may consider a labiaplasty include:

  • General comfort
  • Hygiene
  • Sexual confidence
  • Increased sexual pleasure
  • Increased comfort in fitted clothing like yoga pants
  • Improved appearance

Surgery Process

Preparing for Surgery

Prior to the surgery date, you will be provided with a checklist of items to complete. Some of these may include: if you smoke, you should quit at least three weeks before the surgery date, stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin and ibuprofen, two weeks before surgery, pick up any medications that Dr. Bajaj prescribes in a timely manner, make arrangements for somebody else to give you a ride home following the procedure, and shave or wax the pubic area 2-4 days before surgery.

Labiaplasty Procedure

At Bajaj Plastic Surgery, Dr. Bajaj performs labiaplasty in one of two ways: the trim or wedge technique. After your examination, she will discuss both options and determine which may be the right option for you. Both methods can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

A trim technique involves Dr. Bajaj removing excess skin from the labia minora to prevent hanging or sagging past the labia majora. Dissolvable sutures are placed to close the edges of the labia minora.

A wedge technique removes a segment of labia minora tissue. The remaining tissue is stitched back together. Both techniques result in a scar that is essentially imperceptible.

Recovery Process After a Labiaplasty Procedure

The labiaplasty procedure will take about 1-2 hours, and most patients can return to work within 24-48 hours after surgery. If your job requires a significant amount of physical activity or heavy lifting, you may need to take some additional time off. Typically, most patients are able to take ibuprofen and/or Tylenol for any discomfort. An important component of the healing process is to apply ice to the area to help minimize swelling and bruising.

Labiaplasty patients will need to avoid strenuous activity like working out or heavy lifting for 10-14 days. However, you will not be able to have sex, ride a bike, or engage in other activities that may result in increased friction on the labia for six weeks.

Labiaplasty in Oklahoma FAQs

Can a labiaplasty be combined with other procedures?

It is common for a labiaplasty to be combined with a treatment plan known as a “mommy makeover.” A mommy makeover is a customized surgical plan that is tailored to target the areas where women see the most change after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Having several procedures done simultaneously can allow Dr. Bajaj to better sculpt your desired appearance while also saving you the expense of paying the operating room and anesthesia costs multiple times. The decision to combine procedures will depend on which surgeries you’re interested in, the extent of each surgery, the operating time, and your overall health. Ultimately, Dr. Bajaj will help you decide whether or not it is safe to include more than one procedure in your surgical plan.

A mommy makeover can include labiaplasty, liposuctiontummy tuck, and breast augmentation or breast lift.

The ideal candidate for labiaplasty should be 18 years of age or older. In rare cases, a labiaplasty can be performed on a patient younger than 18, but this is rare.. The reason surgeons prefer to wait until a patient is over the age of 18 is that adolescents are still physically and emotionally developing.

As this procedure focuses on an intimate area of the body, we want to ease any anxiety regarding possible scarring. Scarring varies from patient to patient, as each procedure is customized according to the needs of each patient. One of the many benefits of having a labiaplasty is that scars are easily hidden within the folds of the labia. Dr. Bajaj strives to provide the highest quality of care to her patients and ensures that any potential scarring remains as unnoticeable as possible. While there may be some discoloration around the treatment site, this should improve after a few months.

Because labiaplasty is designed to reduce the size of a woman’s labia tissue, patients often wonder if they should wait until after they are finished having children to have this procedure. Patients who undergo labiaplasty are often in varying stages of their life. Since labiaplasty is mainly externally focused and doesn’t involve the birth canal, any improvements patients receive from their labiaplasty should not change due to a future vaginal birth. For this reason, Dr. Bajaj generally encourages patients who are experiencing intimate concerns or discomfort that is affecting their quality of life to not hesitate to pursue labiaplasty.

Following their labiaplasty, patients should waitsix weeks after their procedure before engaging in physical activities such as sex. The biggest concern with labiaplasty and sexual activity is damaging or impairing the healing wound. The area will be swollen, tender, and potentially painful during the first few weeks of your recovery, so it’s important to avoid all sexual activities until these issues have passed and the area has completely healed.
